Legislation causing becomingly wealthy colonists to give money back to. Europe (a cash grab), which was clearly evident to colonists and created conflict. 1763 - proclamation line (race becomes a political fact) 1770 - boston massacre (crowd was pushing soldiers who eventually returned fire killing many civilians. ) 1772 - samuel adams organizes committee of correspondence. Men dressed as indians, which was very symbolic of liberty. 1775 - battles of lexington and concorde. Vermont ends slavery -> root of 100-year conflict. 1778 - treaty of alliance between us and france. 1779 - spain declares war on england. 1783 - treaty of peace is signed. British loyalists moved up north to maintain their roots. Quest for police power (shay"s rebellion vs. northwest ordinance) Quest for legitimacy (continued the problem of slavery/ compromise of the us. Themes of liberty and equality over race. It wasn"t very revolutionary because there was a lot of hope yet little change.
