Document Summary

We consider programs to be structural containers for long term commitments usually composed of services and/or interventions designed to both directly and indirectly address human needs. Prearranged set of activities designed to achieve a stated set of goals and objectives. Similar to programs, but have a time-limited existence. Much more flexible so can be adapted to meet needs of a changing env. Can be made into a program: pilot projects (tests env do ideas meet needs, is potential proj going to work) Come in lots of shapes and sizes: context, funding, needs, desired results. Organization: a social unit with a purpose: i. e. Agency, church, hospital, school board, government: agency is most often associated with programs. Communities are the context within which organizations exist. Communities are governed at 3 levels (provincial, municipal, federal) Like an agency, a program is an organization that exists to fulfill social purpose. Main difference: program is narrower, better defined purpose, always within an agency.
