Today: two individuals who are attending a function together, purpose is for entertainment, not just choosing a life partner. Hanging out or hooking up: can be a source of pleasure. Skipper and nass (1968) identified four function of dating. Single vs relationship status: gaining status, socialization, recreation, mate selection. Sex de-linked from marriage and family: 4 general premarital sexual standards. Sex is okay if two people are not married, but in love. Love does not have to exist for a person to have premarital sex.
