Brain undergoes significant development during this period, requiring adequate nutrition to support its optimal development. Dominant hand preferences emerge early in this period of development. Motor development results in greater coordination/precision in both gross motor and fine motor skills. Concerns during early childhood include the adequacy of nutrition, maltreatment, and injury. At this stage, children are in jean piaget"s stage of preoperational intelligence.
