Idealistically, self-driving cars are a phenomenal idea, taking the human error out of driving. Realistically, however, driving is an intricate task with infinite variability that requires extensive assessment and decision making, rendering self-driving cars highly impractical in an open system. I believe the challenges faced with self-driving cars will go beyond a programmable ability to drive.
