What is public policy: concerns general guidelines for action by governmental bodies. Where does it come from: existing legislation, canadian constitution, charter of rights and freedoms, indian act, platform of political parties. Has been a pretty significant aspect since canadian confederation. In 2008 pm harper issued an apology on behalf of residential schools. The government of canada sincerely apologizes and asks for forgiveness of aboriginals of this country for failing them so badly. - Has been an everlasting damage to culture and language of aboriginals. Harper recognized that the policy of assimilation was wrong and had no part in our country: royal proclamation. Allowed aboriginal peoples to continue their traditional cultures: policy of multi-culturalism. Solving the indian problem (or solving the white problem: really a white problem- in the sense of arbitrary repressiveness e. g. having resources stripped away to make a living unemployment rate around 17% for inuit communities. Unemployment rate is twice the national average.
