Those with a network of close social ties tend to be happier, healthier, and more satisfied with life than those who are more isolated. Need for affiliation: the desire to establish social contact with others. Which is why we spent time, money, effort to make us seem more attractive. We are motivated to establish and maintain an optimum balance of social contact. Sometimes we want others around, other times we don"t. Misery loves the company of those in the same miserable situation . We crave other people in times of stress. If they will increase our stress, we prefer to be alone embarrassment. People can differ in the strength of their need for affiliation, but there is a universal thing that we all need people.
