Prepare to accurately measure temperature, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure (two step) Understand the pros and cons of vital sign assessment techniques used and rationale for using them. Identify, from memory, expected vital sign findings in an adult. Differentiate between the expected and unexpected findings associated vital signs, including age related changes. Begins with the first moment of the encounter with the patient and continues throughout the health history. Helps to form a global impression of the person. Notes physical appearance, body structure, mobility, and behavior. From first encounter, and then throughout the whole interview. Behaviour: level of consciousness ask them for their name, date, time. Physical appearance: overall appearance, hygiene and dress, skin color and lesions, body structure and development. Find a position that is most comfortable for them.
