Leadership - process that involves influencing the thinking and actions of others with respect to achieving a goal, and one can be a leader w/o formal authority of a management position (characteristics of a leader) Emotional intelligence: good self-awareness and understanding of their values meanwhile understanding others" values may be different; good sense of the people around you. Emotional intelligence + self-awareness + self regulation (manage conflicting values of own and others") + motivation + empathy + social skills. Autocratic- the leader makes all the decisions and nobody else participates; ex) Democratic- by the people, for the people; consensus among people. Laissez-faire- leader doesn"t provide structure, people are let to do what they want. Other factors in env influence outcomes as much as leadership style. Leader effectiveness is contingent upon something other than leader"s behavior.
