Nufs 356 adolescent cognitive and psychosocial development. Adolescence: the period of final developments to reach adulthood. Take place approximately from age 11 to 21. This transition of concreate to abstract thinking meaning they can think beyond today and the effect their actions would have later on occurs from about 12 years of age to 16 years old. In early adolescence we see concrete, egocentrism and impulsive behavior. Middle adolescence you start to see the change because there is still concrete thinking but the start of abstract thinking is occurring. By late adolescence there is total abstract thinking. This development starts around the same time and continues until around the age of 21. It includes the development of independence, self- identity, body image, relationships and beliefs & behavior around lifestyle choices. In early adolescence, there is awareness of sexuality and body image plus peer influence is strong.
