Document Summary
Eas 100 lecture 4 origins of the universe. From a scientific standpoint, without involving theology and religion, this is the most widely accepted theory: about 14 billion years ago there was a singularity. It would have only been about the size of a pinhead, but it was so dense that it contained all the matter that would come to make up the universe. There was a massive explosion that we call the big bang, and the matter scattered and expanded out of the singularity. It has kept on expanding to this day. After the big bang, we finally had what we now call the universe. There was a lot of gas and dust that formed clouds. They began to condense in the centres of these clouds, swirling and gaining heat and intensity. These became nebulas, and the dense masses of dust and gas in the centres could form stars.
