Document Summary

February 1: bond order, names and formulas for chemical compounds, naming acids. Bond order is the number of electron pairs shared within a covalent bond. Within a single bond the atoms are sharing 2 electrons. The trend within bond order is that as the bond order increases the bond energy increases and the bond distance decreases. Formulas for ionic compounds will have the cation written first and then the anion written after. A cation is a positively charged ion and an anion is a negatively charged ion. We chose the +2 value because the net charge is meant to be 0 unless otherwise shown. S2- sulfide there for when writing the compound barium is listed first barium sulfate. *compounds in red are meant to be memorized because they are more common than the others. Covalent bonds have two nonmetal atoms bonded together.
