Document Summary

Nematode traps have evolved independently in many soil-dwelling fungi. Cutaneous: infection occurs on outer layers of skin. Systemic: infection widely spread inside the host body. A common member of gut micro ora and moist epithelial (usually harmless). Can colonize skin"s surface under humid conditions (ex: diaper rash). Also colonized mucous membranes if normal micro ora are absent, or if chemical conditions change. Histoplasmosis: most common systemic mycosis in north america. Transmission of spores from an animal (bird or bat). If the substrate is disturbed, you can breathe in the spores. Sometimes the fungus transforms from hyphae to yeast and invades host cells. It can spread from lungs to other organs. If it becomes systemic, it can lead to death. Immune-compromised people are especially at risk. (aids, leukaemia, organ- transplant patients). Produces carbon dioxide and ethanol by breaking down sugars. Soft cheeses: moulds make white mycelium mat that coats curd, and enzymes make inside soft and owing.
