NURS 3550H Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Antihistamine, Mast Cell, Vomiting
Document Summary
Over the counter drugs antihistamines (histamine antagonists) Tums causes a change in ph of the stomach and may change the absorpability of other drugs. May cause missed diagnoses as the patient is getting symptomatic relief and will delay seeing a physician. Cytokine a protein that is produced by a cell that impacts other cells (predominantly associated with the immune system) protective cytokine. Made in / released from: mast cell and basophils released in response to: injury, drugs (e. g. morphine stimulates release of histamine), allergy. Cns: cognition, memory, sleep/wake cycle, seizure suppression, energy balance, nt and h release. Nausea, emesis: stimulates crtz (crtz coordinates the reverse peristalsis movement when there is a threat to the body, histamine receptors present in the inner ear (associated lack of balance) Blood vessels: vasodilation, increased permeability immune cells are able to get into the area and threats can be cleared away.
