2 main cells of the immune system: b cells- main function is to create antibodies (recognize antigens, which trigger the immune system, t cells- t killer cells: destroy bacteria, viruses, cancers. Memory cells: keep track of what the body has already been exposed to and remembers how to fight it (immunizations) Cytokines: involved in inflammation, they help other immune cells work better. T helper cell: triggers the immune response. *the body will take glucose from anywhere in the body. Cortisol role = maintain glucose levels for brain released daily stress hormone because the brain needs glucose in a stressful situation: with ne/e (tend to be shorter term) secretion controlled by hpa axis, negative feedback. Impacts of cortisol: prolonged presence, consistent stress. Sacrifice all for brain same with presence of drugs: metabolic effects. Heart and vasculature: effects on water and electrolytes, na+, ca2+, k+, p, musculoskeletal effects, androgenic effects, neonate, gcs released during labour/delivery, maturation of the lungs.
