Document Summary

Setting up toxicity tests on january 27 in lab. In addition to the four groups of contamination (we learned on january 22nd) there is also garbage. Brownfields: land or buildings, typically in urban areas, the further use of which may be hampered by the presence of pollution or contaminants. Lust are orphan sites where the original owner is not around and it is now the governments responsibility to rehabilitate. Dnapl: dense not aqueous petroleum liquid (used engine oil) Moves very slow and takes years to develop a plume. Lnapl: light not aqueous petroleum liquid (gas and diesel) Since soils have charges on the outer layer it will act as a chromatography column. The dnapl and lnapl"s will separate out depending on charges and will attract certain materials and will separate everything out depending on the charges. Leakage can go undetected for years and years.
