Document Summary

We had a test on chapters 3 and 4 today. Microscale topography: different ground on a small scale. Hollow = low point on the ground. Hummock = high point on the ground. *putting hollows and hummocks in are important in rehabilitation. Water will fill these pores, and when all of these pores are filled it is saturated, which is not the same as water logged. Water logged is when all of the oxygen inside the water has been used. Gravimetric water: is the water that drains down and out of the pores (larger pores) Soil particles have a net negative charge on the surface that attracts water. This water supports all the organisms in the soil. There are layers around soil particles, however when the water in the soil begins to evaporate the layer will tighten and tighten until plants can no longer remove it: this point is called the permanent wilting point.
