PSYC 241 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Bipolar Disorder, Methylphenidate, Etiology
Document Summary
Chapter 15: oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder. Children frequently argue with adults, have temper tantrums, deliberately annoy others. They do not take responsibility for actions and blame outbursts and rude behavior on others. Some researchers argue that odd is an earlier expression of conduct disorder (cd) Cd is also characterized by a pattern of hostile behavior: 1 in 4 boys diagnosed with odd will be diagnosed with cd, majority of children with odd do not develop cd. Behaviors by the child or youth with cd violate the basic rights of others or major societal norms or rules. Odd is still diagnosed even in the presence of conduct disorder: evidence suggest they are sufficiently distinct conditions. Children with cd often have adhd and learning difficulties. Dsm 5 organizes cd behaviors into four major groups: aggression directed toward people and animals, destruction of property, deceitfulness or theft, serious violation of rules.
