Dsm-4-tr = disorders usually rst diagnosed in infancy, childhood or adolescence. Dsm-5 = continuous developmental approach to diagnosis: nad 1) neurodevelopment disorders = attention de cient/hyperactivity disorder (adhd), 2) anxiety disorders = Separation anxiety disorder 3) disruptive, impulse-control and conduct disorders (cd) = oppositional de ant disorder and conduct disorders, There are multiple areas of assessment: mes 1) developmental and medical history 2) social functioning 3) educational functioning. Role of child psychologist = often the liaison between family, care providers and school. Mental disorders in childhood: * a child can present with symptoms of both an internalizing and externalizing disorder eio. Externalizing problems = disorders of under controlled behaviour e. g. ad/hd, odd, cd. Internalizing problems = disorders of over controlled behavour e. g. separation anxiety, reactive attachment disorder, anxiety disorders, mood disorders. Other problems = not speci ed to over or under controlled behaviour e. g. eating disorders, childhood psychotic disorders.
