Document Summary

Inequality: some quantity, good, or measure is greater than another. Inequity: an inequality that is a matter of injustice. Some inequalities are morally irrelevant (are not inequities) If social inequality causes health inequality, and social inequality is avoidable or reducible, then it becomes a central matter of justice. Equality and equity: sex and health: women tend to live longer than men, even when adjusted for the quality of life. Because it"s a matter of choice (men are behaving in risky behaviour) = not considering inequity. But we need to consider other factors that influence those men to behave in that type of manner. The goal of equality in health can run against norms of non-discrimination. In some cases, inequality may not be morally problematic. Efficiency: total or average production of a good. Creating as much of goods as possible (utility) Equity: fair distribution of a good: how the good is distributed.
