GSWS 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Second-Wave Feminism, Lesbian Feminism, Andrea Dworkin
Document Summary
Lecture 10 : second wave feminism & sexuality. Women don"t know how their bodies worked particularly when it comes to sexual pleasure. Freud: a woman had not achieved sexual maturity until she felt sexual pleasure, having sex with a man, through her vagina rather than her clitoris. If a woman was incapable of achieving orgasm with a man, she was labelled. 1968 - feminist group wrote an article (myth of the vaginal orgasm) Freud contributed medical misinformation to women about their bodies. Most pleasure is centered around the clitoris, vagina does not have so many nerve endings. Heterosexual sex between a man and a woman was an expression of male power and female submission and therefore is always harmful to women to one degree or another. If you accept that second point, you agree that therefore women, in an unequal society, women can never experience sexual pleasure from men.
