Equal rights feminism ~ divergent thought processes that characterized the first wave of feminism. Maternal feminism ~ based partly on the idea that women had special qualities of kindness & religiosity that made them well suited to home life & childcare. These feminists argued that women"s special qualities of womanhood/motherhood could be applied to clean up the public sphere (which had been ruined by men) Belief of many early feminists that women as mothers & caregivers had an important but distinctive role to play in society & politics. Equal-rights feminism ~ held that women should have access to jobs, education & the right to vote on the basis of their fundamental human equality to men. Downplayed differences between men & women, and emphasized their commonalities. Intersex ~ people who are born with any of several variations in sex characteristics including chromosomes, gonads, sex hormones, or genitals, that do not fit the typical definitions for male or female bodies.
