Unit 2: early social and emotional development part 1. In this unit, you will examine key topics in children"s early social and emotional development, including attachment, temperament, self-esteem, and children"s emotional reactions (including reactions to stressful situations). We have provided information related to significant theories on these topic areas to supplement what the textbook chapters (2, 4, 5, and 6) contain. Some of you will likely be familiar with these theories, but as a refresher, the way they are presented here will help you better understand how they relate to children"s lives in the school context. The textbook offers many practical suggestions for communication strategies that can be used with children to facilitate their social development. We encourage you to practice these skills over the next few weeks in your interactions with children (or with adults many of the strategies are also effective for adult communications).
