Provides empirical data to support criminology theory development (recall theory development from last week) Standardized system for collecion of police data: aggregate data, # of incidents reported to police, # of actual ofenses, # of ofences cleared, # adults/youths charged, sex of those charged revised ucr survey (ucr2) Ucr2 also collects data: vicims, accused, circumstances of incident, ofences cleared by charge.
