There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics . Branch of mathematics dealing with collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation. Guerry (1802-1866) and quetelet (1796-1864: statistical school of criminology , goal: correlation between rates of various crimes and other demographic and informative data about phenomena such as economic conditions, age sex, population density, ethnicity etc. Uniform crime reporting (ucri/ucrii: police report data. Self-report studies: government/agencies collect data, self administered or other administrative surveys. Court data: how the court operates/functions. Mala in se and mala prohibita- as defined by society based in law, moral values, social convention, behavioral consequences and other.
