What quali es as alternative media is a subject of debate for both researches and practitioners. There"s debate over the name: some prefer independent , autonomous, or community media. We can de ne alternative media as non corporate, non state media. Alternative media as a space for marginalized voices. The rst problem am aim to address is the lack of certain voices and identities within the mainstream media. Examples of this are what karim h. karim calls the ethic media . These venues offer an expression for other forms of identity. The sources of funding for these projects are contentious however. For some, the de ning feature of am is how it is organized to encourage participation equality, and openness in decision making. That is they strive to be different from what they oppose.
