All communication technologies have an inherent ideological bias. Linguistic difference allows us to dominate over others (ex. Must use language to inquire about the origin of language. The ability to connect and synthesize variables of different elements. A reason for the origin of language was the need for survival. Different types of communication models can lead to different outcomes to study communication. Beyond anything we can say, we don"t consider it speaking - we consider it communicating. Dual origin hypothesis (combines call of nature and gestural origins hypotheses) Language can only be understood by analyzing various codes, grammars, etc. Rapid fading - if you say something, it fades away. Arbitrariness - arbitrary meaning applied to a particular word. Displacement- talk about things that are not in the present. Prevarication - unique trait to humans; ability to produce something false (to mislead, lie) Reflectivity (meta- communication)- to be able to talk about what you are talking about.
