Elton mayo: believed in what taylor said (machine) but thought the environment impacted the way people performed too. Saw performance went up when he dimed the lights did it again and performance went up even more! Workers said that they felt like they where being treated like it matered. Not like a number. (birth of organisaional behavior),employees can be moivated by something ther than money. (1920-30s) Theory x: assumpion that employees only moivated by money/threatened etc. Those 2 theories depend on the circumstances and not diferent people. Ex: at home x to clean house but y to teach and work. When one level is met the next one becomes more important. Maybe for some people the aspects of pyramide are interchanged since they give more importance on other things.
