One of the things you start to see is that this is the emergence of class. People held different social status in the medieval ages. The term class and the concept of class begin to emerge with enlightenment and capitalism. These guys thomas, john walk, were talking about how they could make society better. They were doing a critique of the fuel era with the absolute rule of the monarchs together with the church and they were proposing (which they did) to throw out the church, which they called the ancient regime. This was the regime of superstition, of falsehood, of nothing to be proven.
