The concept of family: historically was defined in social terms and political terms that family is people who blood and or legal ties. The idea that there is a nuclear family emerged in 1800 and started with middle class. Upper class means royalty especially in european concept. Middle class started with industrialization they were the only people who afford to live in nuclear family. The upper class still lives in nuclear family. Nuclear families started with the victorian era and it became the dominant hegemonic power. You have to be biologically related (blood ties) and how spouses are related. The legal contract binds people who have been adopted (legal ties). People could be tying by blood and legally and example would be cousins getting married together. You could be tied by blood but not consider them as your family. Family common law relationships, dating relationships, stepparents, stepsiblings.
