Functionalists views society as a lining organism. A living organism is composed of many parts, with each part fulfilling a specific function. Society is a social system composed of different parts: the family, the education system, the economy, religious institutions. Composed of husband and wife) produce, nurture them, teach, socialize children. The function of husbands is to provide economically for the family. The function of the wife is to provide nurturing and support. The family teaches children societal norms and values. Organized religion supports the system by teaching norms and values, and provides a means of dealing with life"s problems. The education system taught and trains children for life and employment. Schools also reinforce societal norms and values. Schools also sort individuals based on ability and matches children to jobs that best suit their abilities. An organism is healthy when all parts are performing their function. Society is healthy when the parts of the social system perform their function.
