Cbc radio began in 1936, cbc tv began in 1952. In the 1970"s, pierre trudeau threatened to shut off funding for public broadcasting, claiming it was littered with separatists. Public media is paid for by the media, therefore, politics at the time influence what is broadcasted. 2015 federal election debates are not aired on the cbc.
