Week 5 thursday lecture notes: photography became popular in the 1830/1840s. One of the most famous early photographer was mathew brady, who is famous for going around during the american civil war and took pictures of battle fields, generals, bombed out cities, etc. Influencial people in the creation of movies: movies came along late in the 19 century during the industrial revolution period. There was an economic and technological revolution: edward muybridge given credit for being the first person to create a moving picture (1877). That image was the image of a horse running: jules marey in the 1880s, he invented the first real moving camera and the first projector. The problem with the projector is when the film was shown in the projector, it was unstable: william dickson solved the problem of unstable images. Came up with the idea to lock the film to get a stable image.
