Nociceptors are located within the skin, connective tissue, muscle, thoracic and abdominal. Sources of pain: (1) nociceptive pain: somatic, visceral. Short term and self limiting, follows a predictable trajectory. Pain acts in a way to signal you to not do what you"re doing (hand on hot surface short term. Chronic pain: not as predictable in trajectory, difficult to control, malignant could be pushing or stretching other organs. 6 months or longer than the predictable trajectory. Poorly controlled pain can result in lifelong adverse consequences.
