Majority that were young and not that rich, they couldn"t have this space to exercise their power and affection: democratic gay male space. Situation where identity is visible; it is visible today without having to go to jail. Legally, they are entitled to reveal their sexual identity, but a lot of social aspects stop them. Many gay people prefer not to reveal identity in work due to the fear of being ostracized, or discrimination. Or to their families because they are fearful that they will not accept them because they are traditional.
