Today, as a homosexual person, you are legally allowed to come out. But there are many who prefer not to reveal. Gay and lesbians could not appropriate space in a visible way. Unlike italians who could decorate their porch cause being italian is not illegal. Fear and suspicion within gay men because they can"t reveal their sexuality. Ravines are usually safe spaces cause it"s in between borders. Parks were a good place but not so much for direct sexual encounter. When police got word of gays in the ravine so they cut all the grass. Stonewall and the 1969 changes to the criminal code. Feb. 1981: the bathhouse raids and the ensuing street demonstrations: a community is born. Men could have sex with the other men here.
