Yonge street: toronto"s main street, toronto"s spinal cord . In 1981 there was a protest/rally organized by the gay community against police action. It was so vital for gay community to take yonge st. instead of any other street, beucase yonge street is the main street. It goes from the lake, passing through downtown core, to midtown, to inner suburb to outer suburb. Evidence of sexually related contact hidden: people are afraid to reveal that they are gay, won"t find 2 men kissing each other in the middle of the street. They don"t want to reveal their sexual orientation. Rules within gay male networks made by a singular elite. Evidence of sexual contact obvious: not 100% true. But still there"s: if you walk on church & wellesley is where you will see most of stuff to overcome them. Rules and organizational structure set by multiple groups through open discussion. Based on interviews with gay, white, canadian men.
