Document Summary

Quiz starts on wednesday if we finish week 3 lecture today. Herbivores: rodents are most plentiful species. Primary food source/supply for carnivores including wolf, owl and foxes. Wolves are not taking down muskoks every day. Wolves sustain themselves because of rodents: siksik"s (ground squirrels) Other rodents are lemmings with attitude: barren land caribou. This hurd migrates from yellowknife to arctic and in the summer, they go south. When the herd moved through, the ones that were sick, they went towards the mines. Barren land caribou both males and females grow antlers: peary caribou. Malthusian growth: over use of resources, population declines, when there is ice storm, there is population crash because caribou cannot go through snow and ice to find fruit sources. Subspecies of caribou: woodland ontario and quebec, barren ground baker lake and peninsula area, herds in yukon and mackenzie delta, peary caribou are in the high arctic, natural crashes in the population.
