Hurt feelings and uncomfortability are not oppression. Relational approaches to cyc can sometimes strip your opportunities to be critical and learn about equity, need to seek out the opportunities. Centering the voices of the people who are the subject of discussion, know when to stand back and allow for the voices of black people, muslim people, and so on to be louder. If you know you are in a position of power and have privilege you need to know that and then center the people who are not. Being in favour of representation wherever and whenever we can; for example, look at how many black, aboriginal, muslim professors we"ve had. If your feelings are hurt, then that is just your privilege coming out. Don"t feel bad about your privilege, use it for equity purposes. Human resources in a cyc context: group work activity: explain your understanding of, youth services are full of accidental leaders.
