Central nervous system brain & spinal cord. Can divide the nervous system into the sys that it consists of. Overall behaviour is due the combination of the cns & the pns. & autonomic ns stimulating the skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, & glands to respond. Always beings w/ input & results in output or response. Body tries to reduce biological response; return to homeostasis balance o o o o o o o. 31 pairs of spinal nerves; 62 in total (diagram) Each connected through nerve routes that travel to diff parts of the body. Protected by vertebrate bones w/ space in the center to sit in the spinal canal. Spongy disks act as shock absorbers for the bones. Essential part = grey matter surrounded by white matter; gm consists of dorsal horn & ventral horn. Dorsal route = sensory neurons (cell bodies outside. White matter is mainly made up of myelinated axons.
