The unhealthy mind is useful to study to figure out what does what: case studies on brain damage such as h. m. contribute much to early understanding of brain function. Causes of brain damage: brain tumors a growth of cells that are non-functional they damage healthy cells, two types, encapsulated push brain tissue out of the way and damage neurons around it, has own membrane. Stages: 1) no behavioral symptoms, 2) rage, impulsivity, depression, 3) confusion, memory loss, 4) advanced dementia. It removes dysfunctional cells via a genetic trigger: doesn"t effect surrounding cells, necrosis passive death that is the result of injury, not contained, damps the cells that trigger the oh shit response. Neurological diseases diseases that are associated with specific types of brain damage: epilepsy associated with impaired function and inhibitory synapses. This eventually triggers seizures: epileptic behavior increases over time, useful because, used to model different types of epilepsy in humans, physiological changes help model development of epilepsy.
