Hum dev begins in utero and lasts about 9 months before birth. Differentiates and becomes 2 parts: inner cell mass becomes the embryo. trophoblast becomes protective outer layer. Sperm and ova are gametes (specialized reproductive cells) Each are haploids (half: each contains half of the genetic material needed) When they merge, they become a diploid (both sets of genetic materials) Attaches to inside of amniotic sack and umbilical cord.
