Human development begins in utero and lasts for 9 months before birth. Germinal period: conception takes place in the fallopian tube sperm + ovum (egg, sperm and ova are gametes. Germinal period ends when the developing cells attach to the uterine wall. Begins when the blastocyst implants in the uterine wall. Trophoblast develops into 2 parts (amniotic sac and placenta) Embryo itself differentiates into 3 unique cell layers. Different types of tissue that becomes different things (skin, spinal cord, etc. ) Skeletal, organ, and nervous system become more developed and specialized. Week 9: fetal weight (30 grams) fetal length (4cm) 3rd month: organ growth is almost complete, breathing like motions. 4th month: sleep and wake patterns, movement is detectable. 5th month: vestibular system develops, responds to sound, recognizes mothers voice. 6th month: fetal weight (700 grams) fetal length (30 cm), responsive to light, movement decreases. 7 9 months: responsive to taste, growth weight (250 grams per week)
