Document Summary

Joints: place of union of 2 or more bones that enable mobility for activities of daily living. Like the bones of the skull: synovial joints. Bones can be separated or close within a cavity. The cavity in which the joint in enclosed in have a synovial fluid that that allows for movement of the joint. Cartilage cavers the surface of the bone to prevent friction between bones. A ligament supports the joint (is a fibrous band that runs from one bone to the other) and prevent hyperextension (limit the movement) Spine has a single c-shaped curved at birth. Anterior curve in cervical neck region develops at 3-4 months. Anterior curve in lumber region develops at 12-18 months. Bone lengthening occurs at the epiphyses (growth plate, the end part of a long bone, initially growing separately from the shaft) Trauma or infection at these sites can lead to bone deformities.
