Parasite: organisms that live on or in another organism (host) and derives a benefit and/or nutrients at the expense of the host, acquired as a result of bite (tick, mosquitoes); contaminated water, env (bed bugs) or foods. Exoparasite: live on the host and causes an infestation. Exo(ecto) parasites: scabies (common in children; burrows into the skin, stays within the layers of the skin; itchy and contagious), body louse, public lice (crab lice), head lice. Endoparasite: lives in the host and causes an infection. Global burden of parasitic disease: direct life cycle: the entire lifecycle is completed in. One host control is easier: eggs often only viable for a short time in the env complex/ indirect life cycle: lifecycle is completed in. Protozoa single celled parasite: majority are intestinal; rest blood or tissue.
