Parasite: in the world, there are more parasitic than nonparasitic organisms. All will rob their hosts from nutrients. Negative: can clog blood vessels, internal hemorrhages, open sores. Many parasites in rice fields in asia. Responsible for infections in animals, and are able to pass on to humans. Types of parasites: ectoparasites: live on the surface of other organisms. Tics, lice: endoparasites: live in the body of other organisms. Mosquitos: accidental: invade organisms other than their host. Tics: no specific to humans but they will infect us: hyperparasitism: parasites that have their own parasites. Fleas can get a disease from other organisms. Can be ecto, obligate, and permanent at the same time. Vectors: carries parasite form one host to another. Can be another animal: biological: parasite goes through part of life cycle in that vector. Mosquito: mechanical: parasite doesn"t go thorugh any part of the life cycle in the vector.
