COMM 181 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Proper Records, Job Performance, The Technique
Document Summary
The rights of managers to discipline and discharge employees are increasingly limited. If there is an hr department, they will most likely have majority of responsibility in developing disciplinary policies and procedures. It is important that supervisors and managers be involved in the development as well. This is bc supervisors and managers will be the ones carrying out the policies and any experiences can contribute to more effective coordination and consistency within the organization. When taking disciplinary actions it is important to ensure that any actions taken are consistent with any collective agreements and conform to current law. The primary responsibility for preventing or correcting disciplinary problems rests with an employee"s immediate supervisor this is the person they are most in contact with. Discussion is frequently all that is needed to correct the problem; when disciplinary action is needed, the supervisor should strive to use a problem-solving attitude.
