Augustus as funder and supporter of virgil: homer vs. virgil, iliad and odyssey vs. aeneid. Aeneid in 12 books: (iliad and odyssey longer, 24 books each: when virgil died in 19 bce, was still working on it. Greece, asked it to be burned, didn"t want to publish his un finished poem. But augustus did it anyway: it is primarily a work of fiction, but it contains also references to historical people and events, the first 6 books narrates the wandering of aeneas after the fall of troy.
