The canadian human rights act currently protects against seven areas: age, sex, color, race, national/ethnic origin, religion, mental and physical disability. The canadian human rights act currently does not protect against discrimination based on weight. States that the employer has, bylaw, a duty to accommodate the individual. It"s not that the law states equality, but rather a duty to level the playing field so all can participate. However, this can also come with a price tag. It can cost the employer a fair number of dollars. At memorial, the blundon centre addresses the duty to accommodate. Example: you have been offered a job in a small business. You wheelchair does not easily fit through the bathroom door. There is no wheelchair accessible bathroom to use. It can not cause undue hardship to the employer.
