Race: socially-deined classiicaion of people based on certain physical atributes. Ethnicity: set of cultural, linguisic, or ancestral characterisics that disinguishes one group from another group: based on characterisics such as naional origin, religion, language, customs, and values. Ethnic group: those who share a common cultural background and a common sense of idenity. Race and ethnicity are social construcions; they do not exist biologically. Visible minoriies: persons, other than indigenous peoples, who are non-caucasian in race or non-white in colour: 2006 census: visible minoriies account for over ive million canadians (16. 2% of the populaion) Ethnic mosaic: ethnic peoples coexising, and paricipaing in common insituions. Research suggests that racial and ethnic idenity is related to four key factors: relaive size; power; appearance; and discriminaion. Ethnic enclaves: neighborhoods where individuals from similar cultural live together and assert cultural disincion from the dominant group. Minority group: social category that occupies a subordinate rank in a social hierarchy.
